Upcoming Talk: Building Operations during COVID (Wednesday Oct. 14th)

Upcoming Talk: Building Operations during COVID (Wednesday Oct. 14th)

BCT faculty member Ben Weil will present on the topic of ensuring the safety and efficiency of indoor spaces during COVID 19 to the Western Mass Green Building Consortium. For those who may need to open buildings to customers, open schools to students, or run an indoor job site, there are more questions than answers as to how to do it safely and prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus. Guidance from government and international health agencies as well as professional societies can be helpful but can also be confusing. This presentation will provide some interpretation of the standards in light of recent evidence and provide some guidance in thinking through the best practices to minimize risk. We will look at short-term approaches to operations, but also consider how investments to address covid risk now, can pay off in the long-run by saving energy while providing healthier, more comfortable, more productive, and safer indoor environments. Wednesday October 14th, 2020, 5:30 - 7:30pm Zoom link:...

Lisa Carey Moore presents healthy building materials

Lisa Carey Moore presents healthy building materials

Products used on a project can have significant and enduring health effects—not only on your building's occupants, but on the community where the products are made and on the workers who manufacture and install them.  Products may also have significant impact on the planet, through extraction, manufacturing, and eventual disposal. So where does one start when trying to incorporate healthier materials into a project?  The presentation shares case studies that highlight the challenges to, and opportunities for, bringing healthier materials into your next building projects, or your daily practice as a designer of any kind. Ms. Carey Moore's stories highlight lessons learned from her involvement with a range of Living Building Challenge project types, including educational centers, a large laboratory building, and renovation of existing buildings.  Links Living Building Challenge Materials Integrated Eco Strategy Presentation Video https://youtu.be/jsR2orr0r28...
